Today I am posting some cards I made for last week's Global Design Project Color Challenge. I didn't get a chance to link them up in the challenge because of the computer issues that I had, but I still wanted to share them here and tell you about this awesome challenge. Here are the colors we were given to work with last week:
I took some Lemon Lime Twist Ruffled Ribbon and added it around this layer about a quarter of an inch below the square and tied a cute bow. I adhered this layer to a Daffodil Delight layer and then popped that up on dimensionals to a Basic Black card base. Next I stamped the sentiment "Wishing you a lovely day" in Grapefruit Grove ink onto a scrap of Whisper White, along with some little hearts that I stamped in Lemon Lime Twist ink. The stamps are from the Forever Lovely Stamp set. I punched it out using the Story Book Punch and while I had the punch out, I punched another label out in Daffodil Delight, cut that in half and adhered it to the back of the sentiment label. I popped this up on dimensionals and added a few clear rhinestones to finish it off. I knew I wanted to bring in more of the Lemon Lime Twist color, so I reached for the Dear Doily stamp set and stamped out the floral sprig and then used the coordinating Doily Builder Thinlits Dies to cut them out. I added these to the top and bottom of the sentiment and it looks so lovely up against that blended square in the middle. :)
For my next card, I was thinking along the lines of a celebration. What better way to celebrate than a birthday! Right?! So here is card #2 using the same three colors:
For this card, I decided to create my own background. I was inspired from making the first card with the masking techinque that I decided to continue on with that. I took the Tear & Tape Double Side adhesive and added stripes a quarter of an inch apart on a piece of Whisper White card stock. I didn't peel up the backing at this point yet to expose the adhesive, I just left the backing paper on. This created white "channels" or "stripes" in between each layer of tape. I took my masking tape and carefully layed it over each strip of Tear & Tape, only exposing one "channel"strip at a time. I came in with my sponge daubers once again, this time in all three colors. Starting with Daffodil Delight, I inked the first channel stripe and then skipped two and then inked again and so on. Then I came in with the Lemon Lime Twist ink and inked up the channel strip under the Daffodil Delight, then skipped one and repeated the same process. When I was done with this color, there were a few remaining white channel stripes left to ink up in Grapefruit Grove. I hope this is making sense to those of you who are reading this. lol
Now that all of my stripes were inked in with all three colors, it was time to peel off the backing of the Tear & Tape stripes. I started with the very top stripe and once the adhesive was exposed, I held the card layer over my bowl and sprinkled on some gorgeous Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. I absolutely LOVE this stuff! So this part was a little time consuming because I decided to do this one stripe at a time. But man look at the results! What a gorgeous handmade background!!!! I took this layer and adhered it to a Grapefruit Grove layer, an 8th of an inch bigger. Then I added that to a Lemon Lime Twist layer a quarter of an inch bigger and then together, that was adhered to a whisper white card base. I used the Triple Banner Punch and created three different sized banners, one in each color. The Daffodil Delight banner was embossed using the Garden Trellis embossing folder and the Lemon Lime Twist banner was embossed using the Petal Pair embossing folder. I adhered them all on top of one another in the center to create a nice focal point, then adhered this down to the left side of my main card layer. Next I took the Balloon Bouquet Punch and punched out two balloons each in all three colors. I took my Basic Black Stampin Write Marker and decided to do some doodling on some of the balloons. I created stripes, stars, dots, & hatchwork. I really like how I incorporated my own doodling for this card. For the remaining two balloons, I decided to stamp my sentiment greeting which says, "Happy Birthday" and "Celebrate". These sentiments were stamped in Tuxedo Momento Black Ink and they come from the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp set. I arranged them the way I wanted them to look and very carefully added glue dots under each one to hold them in place. I then took some Whisper White baker's twine to create the balloon strings. I carefully tied little knots around the balloons to hold these on. Then I took some Linen Thread and my Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin Blend Marker and colored the thread to make it the same color that I needed! Love how we can use the Stampin Blends to do this! I took this piece of thread and tied it around the balloon strings into a bow for a finished bouquet of balloons look! Added in a few clear rhinestones to finish this card off. WHEW! That was a lot of typing and a lot of love went into these cards! I hope you like them and I appreciate your comments!!! :)
